ABOUT DR. WILLIAM J. BINDER
Los Angeles facial plastic surgeon Dr. William J. Binder helped pioneer the modern concept of “Facial Contouring” with new tools and techniques including a new generation of facial implants created using 3-D computer imaging. The latest and among the most significant of his innovations is the new patented Binder Submalar Implant for restoring youthful contours and volume to the face.
As a leading facial reconstruction specialist in the 1980’s, Dr. Binder first noticed that available facial implants were not simulating normal facial anatomy and that smoother, rounder, and more accurate facial implants would be needed. Believing that the application of computer technology will undoubtedly play an ever expanding role in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Binder designed a system capable of fabricating custom-designed implants that enable the reconstruction of most facial contour defects with much greater accuracy than ever before possible. Using Computer Aided Design Software, CAT scans and molding technology, Dr. Binder designed the first custom-generated facial implant that appropriately and anatomically enhances specific areas of the face. Dr. Binder has provided and restored healthy, natural-appearing facial contours to celebrities whose careers depend on their looks, to accident victims whose faces have been badly injured.
Dr. Binder was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, for which he also serves as a National Board Examiner. He is currently Associate Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and Attending Surgeon at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He received his BA degree in Biology from Syracuse University and his MD degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a surgical specialty Residency and Chief Residency in head, neck and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City and completed a sixth postgraduate year of fellowship in advanced training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in Los Angeles, CA.
Dr. Binder received the President’s Leadership Award from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery for distinguished achievement and significant contributions to the field of aesthetic surgery and the certificate of Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Binder has published over 70 (mostly peer-reviewed) articles in national medical and surgical journals and has edited three textbooks in Facial Plastic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery and Otolaryngology including Facial Contouring and Alloplastic Implants.
